Away in the Manger

Hmmm was there a dog there on Christmas morning? According to a certain 4 year old!

It has been a busy busy December. I am finally done with my shopping and am in the process of wrapping right now. Did all my grocery shopping this morning... yeah. Ashley's Christmas break starts tomorrow so it is just going to get busier. Glad to be staying home this year... my parents are coming to visit. Allison had her two month check up this morning and weighed 11 lbs 13 oz... and no I am not feeding her steak!

Have a Merry Christmas from our family to yours!

Big Sister

Ashley has been an amazing big sister. She constantly wants to know where sister is and loves to give Allison hugs and kisses. I have not really seen any jealousy issues with Ashley. She will ask for cuddles from me occasionally but is always very helpfull with Allison. At first she struggled with remember her name but after a day or two she had it down. She was excited to go to school and hand out her "It's a girl" treat bags and tell all her friends about her new baby sister. She was even more excited when she got to push the stroller into school when I dropped her off last Thursday.

I still am speaking for Allison, just like when she was in my belly, Ashley is constantly wanting to know what Allison is saying. So cute to see her love her new little sister so much.

Allison Joy Cowan

Welcomed into our family Friday 10/29/2010 at 12:32 PM, 8 lbs 5 oz, 21.5 in long.

Wow this delivery was so much better than Ashley. We got to the hospital at 7 AM, I was started on Pitocin at 8 AM and I had a baby 3 1/2 hours later. I really only had to push three times and out she came. It helps that she was a smaller baby than Ashley (9 lbs 8 oz).

I had been saying I just wanted the baby out and boy did I. I felt so so much better just 10 minutes after delivery (the epidural might have helped with that too). I really did want her out and was just so relieved right afterwards. Plus no more gagging on toothpaste, no more heartburn, no more uncomfortableness!

At a little over a week old, all is good. You forget about how much babies really do sleep. She has been nursing really great and will go 4 hours at night, so I have been getting good rest (watch tonight she will be horrible just because I just wrote that).

I think she looks just like Ashley did as a newborn. Same hair, same head shape, same nose, same long fingers and toes. The only difference I see is her eyes are going to be darker, not sure if they will go blue or more gray like Davids.

We love her to death already!

39.5 weeks

Nothing happening here... At my doctors appointment last Wednesday I had no progress from the week before. Barely 1 cm and the baby is still floating up pretty high. Ugh! To say it nicely I want this baby out! Friday is the day, four days and counting!!!!!

We got the crib hardware, so tonight's plan is to get the crib finally assembled. The only thing left is a little white desk that is being painted by my mother in law. I should be able to take some pictures of the nursery on Wednesday. Stay tuned.

Dave finally said on Sunday that we need to get serious about names. Yeah you think so. We still haven't discussed it though. I do have my short list ready. Ashley has names all picked out too. Coconut Dave for a boy and Kenzie for a girl. Interesting choice for the boy name :)

Is it Friday yet?

37 Weeks

I had a doctors appointment today... and nothing. I am barely at one centimeter and the baby is still floating around and has not dropped. I'm sure this one is as stubborn as big sister so it was expected. They have set my induction date for Friday 10/29. So if nature doesn't take its course (which I'm predicting won't happen) we will have a baby on 10/29.... or maybe 10/30.

My sleeping is getting worse, it seems like I make it till about 3:00 AM and then I toss and turn until the alarm goes off. I usually only have to get up once to use the bathroom, but last night I had to twice. David just said today that I have started to waddle (thanks sweetie) and I have definitely slowed my pace down. I just can't walk quickly anymore. Basically I am ready to have this baby.

The nursery is almost done... almost because Babee Tenda's customer service sucks. I have called the company at least five times and I still don 't have my crib hardware. They are real good about taking your name and number, but they don't EVER call you back! So I have a completed room but my crib is still in pieces. I need to paint a desk and find a lamp and it will be really complete. If I ever get my crib in one piece I will take pictures to share.

35 1/2 weeks

The countdown has begun... I'm not sure when the end will be but I want it sooner than later. The miserable stage has begun. I had a doctors appointment yesterday and he is bringing the induction calendar to next weeks appointment. I should have about 3 1/2 weeks to go!

The nursery is getting there. We went to put the crib together and could not find the hardware. I am sure it is in a box somewhere in the basement but the $11.00 they wanted to send me a new bag was better than searching for it! I have cleaned all the stuff (swing, car seat, bouncy seat, burp rags, blankets) and bedding now all I need to do is find the right plastic container and clean some clothes. I've bought some diapers and wipes so I think we are almost there. There are a couple of things I need to pick up this weekend but other than that I am ready!

Dave and I discussed names for about 10 minutes on the drive to St. Louis last weekend and got no where. I have a short list, he had one name (it was a boy name, is that a hint???). Since he can't come up with anything I have claimed all naming rights, but I have a feeling that won't fly. He wants a book of names... another thing that is in a box in the basement. I guess we need to kick it into high gear and get thinking (we did the same thing with Ashley though).

Dave is packing on the weight while I seem to be losing it (I have lost one pound on my last two visits). I have a huge appetite but when it is time to eat I fill up so fast, there just isn't any room. So Dave feels the need to finish my meals for me. I don't seem to be having any cravings... I do love a glass of cold milk though.

Any day now would be fine with me!

Some of the many Elk we saw

I don't have many photos, my brother in law Chris was the official photographer of the vacation, so I relied on him to get all the great shots. But these are a few.

P.S. I hate blogger and photos, so so hard to rearrange them, space them etc.

Ashley's First Day of School

Monday was Ashley's first full day of school. Technically school started last week but we were on vacation so she started a week late (oops!). We had visited the school for an ice cream social/meet the teacher night. After that she was pretty excited, there were kids everywhere and lots of new toys to play with in her classroom. We couldn't get her to leave. We also visited her classroom for an open house before we left for vacation, where the kids went with the teachers aide while her teacher went over a few things with the parents. So this was not the first time there.

Drop off was easy, she went right in and started playing, didn't even really say goodbye to me. When I picked her up she skipped out. Overall I think she enjoyed herself, just a couple of issues with nap time. She is not taking naps in the afternoon even though they lay down for an hour on cots. I hope she gets into the routine soon, because if not I will never get to see her. She fell asleep last night on the way home and slept thru til this morning (even missed dinner). I don't know if she just doesn't want to miss something, but I hope she gets some shut eye soon. Only a couple of crying moments from her about not wanting to nap and a few I want to go to Nicky's.

Here is the best 1st day picture, typical Ashley she didn't want her picture taken.

Small Town Blues

We ripped up our counter tops tonight, because they are installing our new counter tops tomorrow!!

Since our kitchen was a mess I headed to Taco Bell to pick up some dinner. I ordered a chili cheese burrito (AKA chilito) and the guy on the other side informed me that they didn't have chili cheese burritos, then when I got to the window he asked again what I ordered. Then looked at me like I was crazy because he had never heard of such thing. NO chili cheese burritos for me :(

P.S. I don't watch Bachelor Pad (but my sister in law does) but I had the channel on while blogging. I just saw the announcement for the new cast of Dancing with the Stars. Kurt Warner!!! Wow I might just have to start watching again.

Rocky Mountain National Park Day 6

  • Back into the park and up and over the mountain to Grand Lake
  • Lunch at Grand Lake

  • Lunch at Woody's Pizza in Golden
  • Drive to the Denver airport
  • Bubbles

Rocky Mountain National Park

We arrived yesterday in Estes Park Colorado for a week of vacation with the Cowan family. We are staying at a lovely home right at the edge of Rocky Mountain National Park. The view off the back deck of the house is just awesome, mountains everywhere. The elevation is at 7522 feet alot higher than the 465 feet we are used to in Missouri. The higher altitude does not seem to be bothering me too much other than walking distances or climbing stairs. I just am taking my time and not rushing and it seem to be working great.

We started out the day in Rocky Mountain National Park. We took the Old Fall River Road, a one lane road, up the mountain to the Alpine visitors center. Then we took the Trail Ridge Road back down. At one point we were at the highest point in the park at 12,183 feet. Wow it was absolutely amazing, we were surrounded by mountains. The temperature was nice and cool, about 60-70 degrees. We were so high we were actually above the tree line. We also saw two packs of Elk in the park. I have pictures just not with me right now, but I promise to add some as the week goes on.

Other things to remember (to make my future scrapbooking easy)
  • Ashley pinching her hand in the closet door (major drama)
  • Kaitlin throwing up at the Alpine visitors center (probably from altitude sickness)
  • Jamie suffering real bad from altitude sickness (tingling arms, quick pulse, dizziness)
  • "the book says the only cure is to go down!"
  • Me freaking out about the drops off the side of the road (I guess the park service does not believe in guard rails)
  • Chris' new love of photography
  • Lots of prairie dogs
  • Seeing a pack of elk minutes from the house
  • Seeing two deer out the front windows
  • Picnic lunch at Irene Lake on the continental divide
  • Ashley throwing up after Kaitlin feed her a vitamin

The New House

We are here and doing good. I had lots of help last Saturday with unpacking boxes. We got our bedroom, Ashley's bedroom and the kitchen all unpacked. Then on Sunday I worked on my office. We can eat, sleep and work so the rest can stay in boxes! I have not unpacked anything since Sunday, my pain in the butt problem showed up this weekend (thank you third trimester) and I am on strike. The claw foot tub is getting lots of use. It is so nice to run a warm bath at the end of the day and relax.

Things that suck about a bigger house (so far)
  • The stairs... oh the stairs. Being pregnant probably does not help this.
  • Putting away laundry sucks, so much more space to cover (plus stairs)
Benefits
  • I can do laundry after Ashley has gone to bed
Not much but I am sure I will add to them later. I haven't even begun to think about cleaning.

Rush Hour Traffic

I experienced rush hour traffic in our new small town yesterday. Well let me say this.... you can't even call it traffic, because there was none. Nope, nada, non-existant. I heard the traffic report on the radio as I was headed into town for a doctors appointment and luck had it there was a "fender bender" on the road I was actually driving. I drove past said fender bender going 60 mph. LOVE IT!

Moving on up

The other big news on the homefront.... We are packing it up and moving to Dave's hometown, just outside of Springfield, MO. To be exact the movers start packing boxes on this Wednesday and deliver to our new home Friday.

Am I excited? Yes and No. We are getting a much bigger house and a lot more land for a great deal (2nd foreclosure) but I need to get there to be excited. The past two months have been constant packing of boxes, first to stage our house for selling and now to save money with moving. Boy do we have lots of stuff. I have given so much away (at least five trips to Goodwill) and thrown so much away but there is still lots of stuff. But we are getting close to having our house all packed up.

The next two weeks are going to be crazy busy so wish me lots of luck! Oh and if you know anyone who wants to buy a house in Ballwin... send them my way.

Pregnancy update

Today I am at the doctors office for a three hour Glucose test. What better time to update the ol blog. Keep your fingers crossed that I pass and don't have gestational diabetes.

I am am twenty eight weeks and am feeling full. My belly just seems so tight, it is all out front. I kinda wish it was going out to the sides to just make a little more room in there, but I am sure that is to come.

Heartburn has definitely set in, ugh it might be the worst part. You really can't enjoy a meal unless I've had my Zantac 75. The "pain in the butt problem" is there too, but nothing major yet and it's not painfull yet. TMI... I know :)

Ashley is sooo cute, she always want to know what the baby is saying. She will push on my belly and ask, so I am channeling my inner child and coming up with lots of tidbits from the inside. She also bugs Dave daily to tell her if it is a boy or girl. She promises she can keep the secret. So far he hasn't told anyone. Ashley has names all picked out; Hannah for a girl (she doesn't get that it is our new nieces name) and always something weird for a boy (cookey, mankey, keeky) because she really really really wants it to be a girl.

Dave and I haven't even started to bounce names back and forth. We still have time right?

Overall ready for it to be done, and I know I still have a ways to go.

Second Child Syndrome

Most of you all know we are expecting!

I already feel like a slacker with this baby, I blogged almost every week from the beginning with Ashley and here I am 25 weeks prego and I am just now getting around to mentioning it on the ol' blog.

In general I am feeling good, glad to be past the first trimester and the morning sickness. I haven't had many crazy food cravings; loving fish, cheery lime-aids and shakes (which are all carry overs from Ashley's pregnancy). The baby and I are measuring big already even though I have not gained very much weight. But just to be safe I have tried to cut down on my carbs/sugars so I pass my glucose test in two weeks. Keep your fingers crossed.

I did not find out what we are having (beside one healthy baby) at either of my two ultrasounds, but Dave knows. He really really wanted to know so I let him find out the sex of the baby. I have not really bugged him to spill the beans (because I am okay with not knowing) but everyone else sure is pressuring him to tell. Especially Ashley, she promises she can keep a secret (yeah right).

We are excited, I can't believe I am three months away from having a new baby. It goes by so slow but then again so fast.

Scrapbooking

It has been a long long time since I have scrapbooked. We have been spending every free weekend at the Lake and definitely no scrapbooking gets done there. But this weekend we stayed in town to hopefully welcome our new niece (who waited to appear until yesterday) and I got to crop at Archivers!
This one is not quite done, I thought I had some Disney paper at home I could add to spruce it up but I could not find any. So it might just have to stay this way.

This page is from a Studio Calico class we took at Creating Keepsakes Convention. My first time misting!

Another Studio Calico CKC class layout that went together in minutes.
Love this place and Ashley asks about going back all the time. It makes me sad to think I am scrapbooking a year behind (so let's not think about that).

Ahh the ladies partying New Years Weekend. I love all these girls to death and (BIG AND) I get to see them all again this weekend!!!! I can not wait! There might even be a return visit to Hollywood Dolly's!!!
One of many float trip layouts. I do so many it seems like I should be running out of ideas! This time only the guys made it onto to the layout, trying to change things up a bit.

Testing 1 2 3 Testing

Is there anyone out there?

P.S. I might have scrapbooked this weekend and have something to actually blog about.

Well truthfully there is LOTS to blog about; babies, moving, etc.

:)

To the top

Ashley's 4th birthday was Saturday. Everytime we cross over the Mississippi to go to my parents Ashley comments about the Arch and how she wants to go up in it. So for her birthday we got tickets to do just that.

She had no reservations about getting in those tiny tiny capsules to get to the top and I think had a really great time.

Scrapbooking

This past Friday I was blessed with a few free hours and a crop at Archivers. I again only worked on pages, which is so unlike me. I usually like to get projects done with that much free time.
Cedarhurst Art Center in Mt Vernon, IL is definitely worth the drive on a nice Sunday if you are looking for something to do. The kids area was just great and there was lots to do outside also. Used my Studio Calico March kit and based it off this Studio Calico Sunday Sketch.

I love that Ann always gets great tickets to Cardinal games and she always asks me to go! This was a special game because we went with Teresa Collins when she was in town for ScrapSTL and it was also Megan's 1st CARDS game.
I need to journal on this about Dave and his new boat. I just have to get the facts right first, I would never hear the end of it if I messed up all those numbers.... Searay 270SLX I think is right. This layout is from the free scrap pack that we got at Archivers!
Ahhh beer, don't you just love it! Based off of this Studio Calico Sunday Sketch.
The boat races that I didn't really want to go to, but ended up really enjoying myself, Ashley too! The most fun was probably watching the crane load the boats into the water. Again I used my Studio Calico March kit.

Busy buys busy!

I have been extremely busy with work. I have been working on lots and lots of estimates and therefore my blog has been neglected. So has my Scrapbooking. I started this layout two weeks ago and finally found time last night (after 24!) to finish it. Not my most favorite but it is a complete page and that makes me happy.

Not much else going on in our world. We did make it to the Lake this weekend and enjoyed the 70 degree temps. I love my family and friends but it was nice to just be "us" this past weekend. We spent lots of time outside... walking (or on an adventure, per Ashley), cleaning up leaves and just enjoying the spring like temps. All of my bulbs are starting to come up... I love Spring! Trinity was exhausted from the weekend, she spent almost all day Saturday outside, she even went for a swim or two!

This weekend is the annual Post-Rolla St. Pat's party at the Schmidt's in Columbia, MO. Don't forget to wear your green on Friday and drink a green beer for all those awesome Rolla engineers you know!

Sunday Sketch

Another Studio Calico Sunday Sketch. I squeezed this one in over the past two nights. It is really hard to scrapbook when there are 4 HOURS of American Idol to watch. Really not liking Ellen as the new judge, she really doesn't know what she is talking about. I could judge as good as her. If she says "You were great" again I a might just stop watching :)

Scrapbooking Overload

I got a little bit of girl time this weekend. I went with Wendy and Melinda to Archivers on Saturday night. I didn't have a project to work on so I got 10 yes 10 layouts done!!! Sweet treat is based on Studio Calico Sunday Sketch, made with my February kit.
A CKC STL kit slowly using them up before the new convention in April.
An original... but I did scraplift a little, getting the general layout from another page.

Ditto (I love this new line from American Crafts - Dear Lizzy.)
Ditto
Made with an Archivers scrap pack from a previous crop.
Another CKC STL kit.

We also celebrated Megan Schmidt's 1st birthday in Columbia. See Ann's blog for all the fun photos.

More Pre Photos

I have added a few photos lately and thought I would share.

One of the biggest erection I have ever sold (he he). This is Lindenwood University's Student Activity Center yesterday. It is always fun to visit a jobsite and see something you bid over a year ago in the air. Congrats to my shop for fabricating all those pieces, they did a great job.
Crane piece being lifted in the air. (The dorm in the background... I built that too!)
V-day flowers my hubby surprised me with (we agreed NOT to get each other anything).
My devil children. They looked possesed with the glowing eyes.
A Fun Friday with Ashley, we stopped by The Whittle Shortline Railroad store to let her play with all the trains.

Hope you enjoyed a little corner of my life!

Scrapbooking

Just a quick post of a layout I did last night.

Based on a Sunday sketch at Studio Calico. Supplies came from my February Studio Calico kit.

Love this photo of Ashley at the Lake and loving my February kit... I hope to use it on my next few layouts.

Wacky World

This weekend we traveled to Springfield, MO to Dave's parents mainly for the Daytona 500, NASCAR's first race of the season. It is typically a boy weekend so the girls and kids have to find their own fun. Saturday morning we took the kids (Ashley, Aidan and Kaitlin) to Wacky World. It was a warehouse with a bunch of inflatables set up. The kids loved it. At first we had to kinda help them get through some of the obstacles but they soon figured it all out and they were all over the place. It was not hard getting any of them to nap after a fun filled morning!

The rest of the weekend mainly revolved around food. Dinner at the club, V day party at the Weaver house, the fryer at the Daytona party and we even had a couple of Pioneer Woman's dishes. The Cinnamon Rolls are to die for and the Blueberry Cobbler is awesome too.

We left town after the race (which was the longest ever!) in the middle of the blizzard. Since my husband had a large time at the party I was elected to drive. It was horrible! When you see headlights coming towards you on the highway it is no fun. The ABS brakes saved my butt a few times. Dave finally took over when we claimed I couldn't even see where the road was (I couldn't). Of course after Dave driving about 5 minutes we got ahead of the storm and made it back to St. Louis in one piece.

Bowling

Saturday night our little family of three went Bowling. It was Ashley's first time. David or I helped her the first few times but after that she was all about doing it herself. Most of the time she would cross the fowl line and the ball would roll sllllllooooowwwwwlllllyyy down the lane. She did great and I think she really really enjoyed it. She bowled a whopping 42, Dave and I both broke 100 which is pretty impressive since I can't even remember the last time we bowled. Dave won (if I didn't mention it I am sure he would criticize me for not).
I also squeezed in a little scrapbooking this weekend. The rest of the weekend was a little relaxed and of course Scott and Wendy's annual Superbowl party. I could talk about the game but lets get serious, most people only care about the commercials. I thought they were few and far between... anyone else feel this way? I did like the Bud Light and Doritos commercials, McD's with Larry Bird and the Snickers with Betty White. I thought all the Coke commercial were bad and the one with the old Chicago Bears... what was that advertising??? I need to find a website with all the commercials because I heard we (tax payers) paid $2.5mil for a Census commercial, NICE!
